The word ‘impeachment’ has actually been around since the 1400’s. First used in France (it is a derivative of the word ‘empechen’ which means, according to www.etymonline.com, “to impeded, hinder, prevent” it as originally used to describe “a ship that has run aground.” And that word was taken from the Latin words “pedica” meaning “a shackle, a fetter” and “pes”, meaning, “foot”. Why all this explanation? This is Impeachment for Dummies and we should know and remember what this word actually means and what it describes. To peach someone means to “inform against, to accuse, indict, bring to trail.” And Trump is being impeached and has been impeached based upon whom you talk to? It all sounds very confusing and it may be for many. But this we do know, in the House of Representatives (US Congress), Trump was impeached on two grounds-obstruction of justice and abuse of power.
But the question we should ask is this: does anyone really care what is currently going on in the US Senate as members of the House of Representatives bring Articles of Impeachment against Trump? It appears based upon Nielsen television and cable ratings, not many are watching the impeachment hearings. Though, if you work for the federal government in Washington DC, you probably are caught up in the middle of this storm. However, it appears that the American public, left, right and center are not preoccupied with what is going on.
And what shall those of us do who are in the middle of wanting to know what will happen to our President and our government? Instead of grinding our teeth, expressing disgust either for or against the impeachment of President Trump, I would respectfully submit to you a better plan-the antidote for you if you are anxious about Trump being impeached….whether you want him impeached or don’t want him impeached. Here’s the antidote to the toxicity of what is going on in Washington DC: pray your hearts out! This may sound juvenile or even too simplistic, but, nevertheless, it is the antidote for the poison that is currently swirling like a typhoon in the US Senate.
For those who are Bibliophiles (lovers of the Bible), there is a great verse found in the Hebrew Bible-“…if my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land…..” This is a verse from the ancient Hebrew book of 2 Chronicles 7:14. It is an old verse but it works today in January 2020 as we see what is happening in the US Senate and the US House.
So my admonition: Are you praying for our nation; are you praying for the leaders of our nation; are you praying for your federal, state and local elected officials? We spend time complaining and whining; we spend time watching and/or listening to the news of the impeachment. But how much time have I prayed; how much time have I prayed. Yes, you may not care about what is happening in the well of the Capitol building-but I challenge you today to get on your knees and pray for our nation, the President, the US Senate and the US House. Let’s apply the salve of healing to our divided nation and call out to the God of Heaven and Earth.
