Election Fraud Arrests Begin — Non-Citizen Accused of Registering to Vote in CA Learns the Hard Way

A federal prosecutor in Los Angeles said Friday that election fraud arrests have begun in California, announcing the arrest and charging of a Honduran national accused of getting on the state’s voter rolls by falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said in an X post that Darwin Jonathan Rivera Flores was taken into custody and charged with two felonies: unlawfully registering to vote and falsely claiming U.S. citizenship.

If convicted, Flores faces prison time and deportation. Essayli posted a brief video clip of the arrest.

Essayli framed the case as the opening salvo in a broader federal battle over California’s voter rolls.

"Because states like California allow non-citizens to easily register to vote and receive a ballot by mail, there is no telling how many non-citizens are currently registered," he said. "It is time for California to comply with [Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon's] request for a comprehensive audit of its voter rolls to protect the integrity of our elections."
