House Speaker Mike Johnson doubled down on his support for former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election during an appearance on CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Tuesday.

"When you were named Speaker, a lot of people said, 'oh, Trump ally, Trump, big Trump guy big Trump ally, but, you as far as I know, you have not endorsed the former president yet for 2024 and this is, everybody's watching this show right now, this if you're going to do that this would be a great, great time to do it, Mr Speaker. You ready?"

"I have endorsed him wholeheartedly," Johnson responded promptly. "Look, I was one of the closest allies that President Trump had in Congress. He had a phenomenal first term. Those first two years, as you all know, we brought about the greatest economic numbers in the world and not just the country because his policies worked, and I am all-in for President Trump. I expect he will be our nominee, and he's gonna win it, and we have to make Biden a one-term president. We have to do that."

This news follows the Republican House Speaker pitching a plan to GOP lawmakers on Saturday, in hopes of averting a government shutdown. Johnson said his proposed bill "will stop the absurd holiday-season omnibus tradition of massive, loaded-up spending bills introduced right before the Christmas recess," and that "separating out the CR from the supplemental funding debates places our conference in the best position to fight for fiscal responsibility, oversight over Ukraine aid, and meaningful policy changes at our southern border."
