“There is a right way and a wrong way, always choose the right way.”  Abraham Sabrin (1914-2001)

Jack Smith was appointed Special Counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate any crimes committed by former president Donald Trump surrounding the “insurrection” of January 6, 2021.  The indictment has been criticized by law professors Alan Dershowitz and Jonathan Turley, and former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy.  They all make the compelling case that Smith’s indictment is not worth the paper it is written on.

And in today’s Wall Street Journal Kimberley Strassel points out that the standard Smith used to indict Trump could have been applied to politicians from both sides of the aisle.  If we apply the Smith standard, there would not be enough prisons to hold all the politicians who lie to us or have beliefs prosecutors object to.

The bottom line is Jack Smith is one of the Biden administration’s “enforcers” using dubious legal standards to “take out” the putative 2024 GOP presidential nominee.

For this reason, Jack Smith is the August Schmuck of the Month.

The continuing journey to a full-fledged banana republic has accelerated under Biden. The remaining question is obvious: will Republicans play tit-for-tat when they regain the White House?

Unless there is a “truce” between the Democrats and Republicans there is an inevitable outcome, a “civil war.”  Whether the coming strife is an all-out domestic conflict between the “blues” and the “reds” remains to be seen.  But the cracks in our polite democracy has deteriorated for an obvious reason:  “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

We are at the end of the line of the 100 plus year experiment in “progressivism,” which should be called statism—the worship of the state as the omnipotent institution in society.  We have our work cut out for us to put the federal government in its rightful place as outlined in the Constitution.  This is the battle worth fighting for.

I am pleased to award the Mensch of the Month to radio talk show host Gary Nolan.  Gary’s show airs in Missouri and surrounding states 9am-12pm, central time, where he brings clarity to the issues of the day by exposing the fallacies of statism.  Gary is one of the most knowledgeable talk show hosts in America and a real mensch.  In addition, several months ago Gary invited me to provide a weekly overview of current economic conditions on Wednesday at 11:05am, eastern time.  I look forward to every Wednesday when Gary and I can provide his audience with a free market perspective on the economy and limited government solutions to the issues facing the country.
