ACLU Sues U.S. Government On Behalf Of Separated Migrant Families

(Newsy) The ACLU is seeking damages on behalf of thousands of families who were separated under a Trump administration policy. The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the Trump administration on behalf of thousands of migrant children and parents who were separated at the border. The lawsuit calls out officials from the White House and the Departments of Justice Homeland Security and Health and Human Services. The ACLU is seeking potentially millions of dollars in damages and the creation of a fund to pay for professional mental health services for the families. Its representing thousands of families from Guatemala and Honduras who were separated for as long as 16 months. Lee Gelernt the ACLU lawyer leading the suit said: Tragically it could take years for these families to heal. Some may never recover but we are fighting to give them a chance.
