-Source- Tallahassee Democrat- An unprecedented statewide hand recount is underway across Florida in the races for the U.S. Senate and commissioner of agriculture. And early reports suggest Gov. Rick Scott is more likely than ever to become the states next U.S. Senator. Following machine recounts completed Thursday Republican challenger Gov. Rick Scott leads Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson by 12603 votes a margin of 0.15 percentage points. For agriculture commissioner Democrat Nikki Fried was ahead of Republican Matt Caldwell by 5307 votes or 0.06 percentage points. The recount in Broward County which the Nelson campaign pointed to as key to closing the gap with Scott was mostly finished after just two hours Friday. Election officials didnt immediately release results but the speed with which the recount was conducted suggests that the extra votes Nelson was hoping to uncover werent there. Nelson otherwise captured 69 percent of the vote in Broward. Broward election officials said they would not release hand recount results until they report them to the state Sunday.
