(NY Post) Mark Moore February 12 2019 Retired astronaut Mark Kelly on Tuesday said he would run for the Senate seat once held by Republican John McCain in Arizona. I care about people. I care about the state of Arizona. I care about this nation. So because of that Ive decided Im launching a campaign for the United States Senate" Kelly said in a video released on his Twitter page. He said Arizonans face incredibly challenging issues" in the future naming access to health care wage stagnation job growth and the effects of climate change. Partisanship and polarization and gerrymandering and corporate money have ruined our politics and its divided us" Kelly 54 said. Weve seen this retreat from science and data and facts and if we dont take these issues seriously we cant solve these problems." Kelly a naval aviator who spent more than 54 days in space for NASA and flew 39 combats mission in Operation Desert Storm" over Iraq and Kuwait said he turned to politics after his wife former Rep. Gabby Giffords was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt in 2011 in Tucson Ariz.
