(Boston Globe) Nancy Pelosi didnt get to be the political powerhouse she is today without being a world-class deal maker. So its hardly a surprise that when faced with a rebellion in the ranks the once and now future House speaker cut a deal that could pave the way for a new generation of Democratic leaders to move up in the ranks. This weeks deal by which the California Democrat agreed to serve no more than four years in her leadership role is a far cry from her head-in-the-sand stance during a meeting last spring with the Globe editorial board and throughout the summer as a field of bright young candidates emerged willing to pledge to vote against Pelosi for speaker should they be elected.
