Women gain Victories for Both Parties

-Source-Bloomberg- A dominant theme of the latest round of congressional primaries was the continued emergence of female candidates in both parties. There were 36 women running in House or Senate contests across five states on Tuesday. In South Carolina Republican Katie Arrington won an upset victory over incumbent Representative Mark Sanford. In Virginia Democrats nominated women in six of the seven U.S. House districts now in Republican hands including four that will figure prominently into the broader battle for House control this fall. Democrats nominated Jacky Rosen for a closely contested Senate race in Nevada. In all at least 14 women emerged as nominees in the primaries that also included Maine North Dakota and Nevada. A record number of women have stepped up for U.S. House and Senate races523 as of June 12. Overall almost three-fourths of the women running are Democratsand theyve been more successful than their Republican counterparts. More than half of Democratic women whove faced voters have won their races compared to about 40 percent of Republicans.
